Michael VanDuzee recognized that while plastic is convenient and durable, its production from oil contributes to environmental degradation. Inspired by online videos demonstrating homemade plastic creation, he experimented with producing his own biodegradable plastic using cornstarch, sugar, glycerin, vinegar, and water. Mixing these ingredients and heating them while stirring, he then spread the mixture onto a silicone mat and allowed it to set for three days.
