The Democratic Republic of Congo has experienced increasing violence. During the past week, the fighting between the army and M23 rebels has displaced more than 72000 people. The M23 rebel group claims the representation of the Tutsis ethnic group’s interests. Rebels have attacked an army base in the area, near 20 km from Goma. According to the UN, people have fled and 7000 have reported crossing the border to Uganda, while other people have taken shelter in other cities close to Goma.
