We thank God for scientists who are doing their best to save the planet. Scientists from NTU Singapore have found a way to transform waste paper into eco-friendly lithium batteries for smartphones and other devices. Paper accounts for a 5th of Singapore’s waste, most of which is incinerated, producing tons of CO2. By exposing the waste paper to high temperatures, they reduce it to pure carbon which can be turned into electrodes for batteries. This makes it much cheaper to produce and batteries last twice as long than traditional ones.
