We pray for the Democratic Republic of Congo, where at least 129 people were killed while trying to escape from the central prison in Kinshasa. According to authorities, the prisoners attempted to break out on Monday after a fire broke out in the administrative building, including the infirmary. Makala Prison, the largest in the country, was built to hold 1,500 inmates but currently holds between 14,000 and 15,000 prisoners. Amnesty International explained in a recent report that most of the detainees are still awaiting trial.
