Survivors mentioned departure from Libya 7 days prior, with people from Senegal, Mali, and the Gambia. The next day, 21 people died when a rubber dinghy sank off Turkey’s northern Aegean coast. According to the International Organization for Migration, 226 individuals have died crossing the sea this year.
