We pray for Syria where 100 people have been killed by a drone attack on a military college during a graduation celebration. According to the authorities, the number is lower, while the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that more than 100 have been killed and at least 125 injured. There is still no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the military accused fighters “supported by international forces” for the attack. The UN Secretary expressed his concern about the situation.

We thank God for the creative alternatives that young people in the world are making to hear the cry of the poor and the cry of the Earth. In India, Asad Abdullah, 22 years old, created a bike that is powered by solar panels. He built it when the gas prices rose, and transport became too expensive for many people. On a sunny day, the bike can travel over 150km without stopping. It took only one month to build it and it is made mainly of recycled or scrap materials.

Let’s pray for Iraq where at least 113 people have been killed and 150 are injured due to a fire that ripped through a wedding celebration. According to the authorities, the fire started at 10:45pm local time on Tuesday night in Nineveh’s Hamdaniya district and the cause could be fireworks. A health ministry spokesperson ensured that all efforts are being made to provide relief to those affected by the accident. According to reports, the building did not have the proper safety measures and emergency exits.

We pray for Pakistan, where a powerful suicide bomb exploded at a rally celebrating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad in southwest Pakistan. According to officials and media reports, the death toll from the blast has climbed to 52. The bomb exploded on Friday near a mosque in Mastung district of Balochistan. More than 50 people were injured and some of them are in critical condition. The country’s interior ministry confirmed a blast carried out by terrorist elements in Bolochistan.

We thank God for the people who use waste to produce new elements, creating a circular economy. In Uganda, the company TexFad transforms waste banana pseudo stems and other waste materials into high quality sustainable textile products. Kimani Muturi founded the company to turn discarded banana stems into rugs, mats, and even hair extensions. Bananas are one of the world’s most wasteful crops, leaving behind 2 tons of debris for every ton of fruit. Farmers usually burn them, polluting the air.

Let’s pray for Armenia and Azerbaijan as their ongoing conflicts persist. Armenian sources indicate 27 casualties, including 2 civilians, and 130 people injured. While a humanitarian corridor has been established after three month blockade, the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh continues to deteriorate. The International Red Cross expressed its concerns about the high impact of this military escalation on civilians. May God grant wisdom to the leaders of both nations, to find pathways to peace, and to not be influenced by powerful external nations that exacerbate misunderstandings.

We pray for the people of Ukraine and specially for Caritas-Spes Ukraine, which helps families with humanitarian aid. On the night of 19 September, a Russian airstrike hit an industrial enterprise in Lviv where the Caritas Spes humanitarian aid warehouse was located. This created a massive warehouse fire, which destroyed over 300 tonnes of humanitarian aid. No employees or civilians were injured. According to Caritas-Spes, this is not the first time that attacks hit humanitarian warehouses. In May this year, two other warehouses in Odesa and Ternopil were destroyed.

We thank God for the efforts that local businesses are making to transform local communities. The population in Ticino Cordova, Argentina, is illuminated by peanut shells. The economy of this town of 3000 people is connected to peanut production. In fact, Cordova produces 80% of Argentinian peanuts, and it is estimated that annually 45000 tonnes of peanut shells are wasted. If the waste is accumulated in the field, it can cause wildfires.

Let’s keep in our prayers the people from Morocco. At least 2946 people have been killed and 5530 are injured due to the deadliest earthquake since 1960, with a magnitude of 6.8. The earthquake flattened villages across the High Atlas Mountains and destroyed several ancient buildings. Several rural towns were destroyed due to the fragile construction materials. Search and rescue teams have continued to look for victims under the rubble, but some areas were still out of reach. The death toll is expected to rise.
