We pray for the state of Guerrero in Mexico, which was struck by Hurricane Otis. The hurricane made landfall at midnight on Wednesday and rapidly intensified from a tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane in just 12 hours, bringing winds of 260 km/h. According to authorities, at least 27 people have lost their lives, and four people are still missing. The province of Acapulco, a significant tourist destination, was severely impacted. Numerous houses, supermarkets, schools, and other infrastructure were destroyed.

The incident occurred in Bhairab city when a cargo train collided with a passenger train, causing two passenger carriages to derail on Monday. According to government authorities, the death toll may rise, and the injured individuals have been transported to various hospitals. It remains unclear how many people might be trapped. Railway services were promptly suspended in the affected region.

The Appalachian Botanical Company has been cultivating lavender and raising bees in West Virginia, United States, on what used to be coal mining land. Former coal miners are now growing lavender to rehabilitate the very mines they once worked.

In India, local residents, governments and private sector have been actively involved in one of the most significant river cleanup projects in history. The Ganga basin, which is home to 650 million people and 25,000 animal and plant species, has unfortunately become highly contaminated due to increased industrial pollution, plastic waste, and sewage entering the river. However, there is a comprehensive plan in place to restore it.

Let’s pray for Myanmar, where last week the military bombed a camp for people displaced by conflict in northern Kachin State. Approximately 28 civilians were killed, including 12 children, and the shelters, kindergarten, and church were destroyed. While human rights groups attributed the attack to the military, they denied responsibility for it. According to the UN-appointed investigative mechanism, this is not the first instance in which the military has targeted civilians and civilian areas.

Let’s pray for the 21 victims that have died in a bus crash near Venice. The victims were 9 Ukrainians, 4 Romanians, 3 Germans, 1 Croatian, 2 Portuguese, one South African and one Italian. Venice public prosecutor started the investigation into the crash. They want to know if there were other vehicles involved in the incident or if the driver suffered a health issue. The government sent condolences to all the families of the victims.
